The Critterman

We are so excited to be able to share this post with you because this is about a special family that offers a very fun, educational, and unique experience that we can attest to all ages just loving!! We are talking about
THE CRITTERMAN!

He is truly a jewel of the Dallas/Fort Worth area and was named by D Magazine to be “Best Children Entertainer!” He is perfect for birthdays, church events, school programs, PTAs, educational events…….. Chan and I have both booked his mad skills for birthday parties for our children, as well as our kiddos have attended several parties where he was the main man!! I have boys and she has girls, and he makes it super fun for both!

So…what are we talking about here?

Well, The Critterman is just that! He is a wonderful, fun-loving gentleman who comes to your house and talks about critters. And you get to pre-select exactly what those critters will be! Yeah! Yeah! But how do you keep a room of toddlers through elders entertained for a long time??

Enter David Klevan, aka The Critterman.

He arrives at your home kind of quietly…and precisely on time!!….this guy has it down to a mad science on just how to get in and get out. And just about the time you are beginning to sweat and wonder if your significant other might be able to fill in and make balloon shapes (because we are moms and we have to have everyone at a text message away) he shows up! ….and not a minute late! He is simply wonderful and reliable!

He rolls in what looks like a silver, stacked box full of holes, and you wonder what in the world could he have in there? Everyone is already in their seat ready to watch, and the magic begins!

The Critterman begins by singling out the birthday boy or girl!! He makes them feel special and makes sure everyone knows who is being celebrated. Then he pulls out his first animal! If it is safe, he lets the kids (and a few very brave adults …cough! cough!) pet the critter. He makes sure every child sees it and shares interesting facts about each critter! They are fascinating and so cool, but we won’t spoil any of those details! AND depending on the critter package you choose, The Critterman will hand deliver a special stuffed critter to the special boy or girl!

We cannot stress how much we love, love, love this party! AND what we love even more is that it works year round! Chan’s children have birthdays in the cold months of the year, and my boys have summer heat birthdays! The Critterman works year round! If the weather is pleasant, we have attended a party where he sets up in your garage. If not, he is happy to set up inside. AND NO….the critters do not get to wander around in your house!! :):) He keeps them well under control. He has the ability to share an intimate small party up to large crowds for school assemblies! You simply cannot go wrong!

This sounds great…how do i book?

In a nutshell, you NEED The Critterman at your child’s next party, church, or school event! And what kind of bloggers would we be if we didn’t help you plan for your entire party or event?! Since Chan and I have both had The Critterman for parties at our homes, we wanted to share with you the photos, the favors, and the details to help give you inspiration for your own Critterman party, and of course we will link all of the details!

Chan’s CRitterman party

When my daughter, Kennedy, came to me and said she wanted a snake birthday party, I wanted to crawl out of my skin.   In fact, I started having nightmares that a snake got lost and crawled under my house.   But, as a mom, we buck up, and do what our kids want.   I am beyond glad I did.

For the party I got a pull apart cupcake snake from Kroger ordered.  Y’all, this was perfect for the party, and you can customize the colors, and it was only $17!   I also had some snacks, drinks, and of course Haribo Twin Snakes (one is sweet, one is sour) that my girls love.  For favors, I bought these cute stuffed animal snakes from Oriental Trading Co. and tied a hangtag by ribbon that said, “Snakes a lot for coming to my party!”

Here are some of the kiddos that came to the party, and when the adults were wanting to stay and watch because he is so informative, you know it was a great party!!

Kennedy picked “the squirm factor” package and this happened right out of the gates!

Here is the Critterman letting some of the kiddos touch one of the animals.   As you see, he is very safe with the kids!!!!!

The party ended with this beauty right here!  An albino python that stole the show!   Everyone had a photo op to end his time with us.      We have seen the show (in different versions) about 3 other times, and y’all it never gets old!   We love The Critterman and all his wonderful critters (some more than others, lol)!

Kate’s critterman party

We hired The Critterman for my youngest’s five year old party! Five years old is such a milestone, and we wanted his party to be extra special! This party was simply perfect because at five years old and a summer birthday, swimming isn’t always the greatest option because you worry about five year olds in the pool….and with his birthday falling in the middle of summer and the Texas heat, we knew we wanted something inside! I love a good turn-key party at a big box party venue, but there is something so fun and sweet about the little DIY details of a party in your home! The memories of these gatherings seem to be the ones that last! Enough about that…on to the details!

“Dirt” is a favorite party cake of my boys! Sounds delicious, right?! Haha! We felt it fit right with the critter theme because where do most critters and bugs exist??….in the dirt!! And with some dietary issues existing in our family it is one of those desserts that is easy to make some modifications to make it mostly dairy and gluten free!….WITHOUT sacrificing on flavor or presentation! Sometimes that is hard to achieve, but this was certainly a win-win!

Liam’s Critterman Dirt Cake

Ingredients
  • 4 cups cold milk – I use a dairy free alternative like almond, coconut, or cashew
  • 2 packages vanilla instant pudding
  • 2 – 8 oz container whipped topping, thawed – I use coconut whipped cream
  • 1-1.5 packages (16 0z) Oreos (crushed into crumbs) – you could also buy gluten free options
  • Gummy Worms
  • 20 plastic cups (8 oz. size)
Instructions
  1. Pour the milk into a mixing bowl and add the pudding mix.
  2. Beat with a wire whisk until well blended (about 2 minutes)
  3. Let pudding stand for five minutes.
  4. Stir whipped topping into the pudding very gently.
  5. Using a food processor (or a large baggie and and a meat mallet), process the oreos until they are a mostly powder-y consistency…be careful to not over-process and make gummy with the cookie cream mixed in. Set aside.
  6. In a separate large clear bowl (you will want to see the layers because it looks like a parfait!), begin layering the pudding mix and then the cookie crumbles alternating but making sure you end with a thick layer of cookie crumbles on top!
  7. Place in refrigerator to chill…can be made a day in advance!
  8. Before the party, “decorate” your cake with gummy worms, snakes, spiders, or whatever gummy critters you find. It is fun to have them “crawling” in the dirt or off the side of the bowl!
  9. When ready to serve, add one to two gummie worms or gummy snakes or gummie bugs and spiders to each clear plastic cup.
  10. Scoop mixture into each cup and add a spoon!
  11. Serve immediately!

(You can also pre-serve the cups and chill them already staged!…just add gummies to each cup right before you serve and not earlier!)

For the favors, my boys wanted to help me create goody bags! We found critter gummies, wooden snakes (the kind we all had when we were kids…no batteries, no special effects….you hold them by their tail, and it looks like they are wiggling back and forth!), and toy spiders, of course! Eeeeeeee!!!

They helped me bag it all up, tie a bow of twine, and I had made little printable tags that said, “Thank you sssssssssso much for coming to my critter party!”

So as you can see we both had the same party but slightly different approaches so it was fun to share out ideas with you!

Again, if you are looking for some great “edutainment” for your next children’s party or school/church gathering, The Critterman is your guy!
Don’t forget to tell him that Koko&Chantelle sent you so you will receive your 10% discount!
