Easter is my favorite holiday!! I love to make lamb (check out my recipe for lamb-burgers here!) and have lots of family and chaos and just enjoy the “newness” that the holiday brings! There is always something so special about a new Easter dress! It is something cute and fun and colorful! Even as a little girl, I can remember we used to go to New Orleans or Memphis to choose one, and it would always be that really thin cotton with a lace trim collar and thin satin ribbons laced in the sleeves. They were so beautiful and special! Truly wonderful memories of how I felt in those dresses. I guess that even from that young age I knew how much fashion felt like an expression of art for me. I would also have a fresh new pair of sandals, and somehow even if it had been warm in the weeks leading up to Easter, that Easter morning it would be chilly so a lightweight white cotton sweater was always a necessity!
Our tradition was that every female in our family had a corsage that they wore to church that Easter Sunday! Even me! I remember feeling like I was a member of some club that day and almost an equal to the matriarchs in my family. Such a special memory!
My church growing up was a Methodist church right on one of the main streets in my home town. It had a grand presence which was appropriate since it sat on Grand Boulevard! On Easter Sunday morning there was always a wire cross sitting in the grass outside the front entrance of the church! The congregation members were to bring a flower {which most brought from their yards because azaleas were in full bloom by that time of year!} to flower the cross! By the time we all entered the sanctuary, that cross was covered in blooms and vibrant colors!
As I look at this Easter dress post, it reminds me of the flowered cross with all the colors! So vibrant and beautiful! For some reason, this spring season has just seemed so much more colorful, and it is so wonderful! We’ve rounded up our favorite Easter dresses…lots of color, lots of lace, and lots of floral! AND…most of these are under $100!
